Was wondering, could you tell anyone you know in Southern California, help us spread the word in any small or Warholian way, that we are playing LA next weekend, on March 15th, for this interesting downtown warehouse three day festival, and we know we'll make a dramatic impression, but we need help from everyone we know to help us get people there to see us specifically. This is not a joke. It is an ad linked to the IKEA website and has been sent out in emails to those people subscribed to their mailers.

At first, this looks like a funny college / back to school ad, but when you look at one of the captions you will see this:
Brightens up your grad’s dorm. Unlike a creepy gothic roommate, who can be a bad influence.”

What does this mean and what is IKEA trying to say here?

There is no reason to make the comment “who can be a bad influence.” How is this helping to sell pillows?

The Gothic / Dark Alternative Subculture gets enough bad press and now having a company like this make a statement such as this one further propagates the misconceptions of the "gothic" culture.

If you are offended by this ad, I urge you to contact IKEA and express your feelings about this. I will be sending them something from Bats Day in the Fun Park. If this is their belief, then I will not purchase anything from IKEA ever again. Please keep in mind; this is a huge corporation, which has an enormous customer base.

Please let IKEA know about your feelings.

A 1971 MM Caddy Hearse converted into a deep playa bound bar for thirsty vampires. Complete with industrial and goth tunes and fire effects! Naturally it will be in tune with this years Burning Man theme of "The Green Man". Hey its hippy so you just wait an see what OUR interpretation will be LOL!

Female musicians wanted for Hard ChiXXX rock band.

Hey all,
I am looking for female musicians, bassist, drummer, and guitarist, that have an exciting live visual element to them (ex. sexy, rocker, goth, punk...) strong playing skills, and the equipment required to play small venues.

The immediate goal is getting this set tight and booking a lot of rock/dive bars and playing out. This is for fun, but there is a level of commitment and professionalism required. No drama. A very visual and exciting stage show will be part of the deal, and I would like to work in fire performers and similar burner talent as I can and where venues allow. Of course outdoor events are proffered when available.

Hey guys! I'm pretty sure I'm going, just wondering if anyone else is. The friend I'm going with rarely ever leaves the dancefloor, and it would be cool to actually have a few conversations at the club. I like the venue, music and eye candy there, but when the dancefloor gets too hot and crowded, I always end up sitting alone outside. I've tried to meet people, but no one will make eye contact or return a smile. Damn you antisocial goths!!! :)

Bar Sinister Review

Good turn out at Bar Sinister. dispite the 7 to 8 dollah drink prices, we all had a great time, meeting up, and thanks for being there. In attendance were, Ponyride stunning as ever, Lann and Juliet delicious as could ever be (I want to rape them both), Lulie (My favorite person to get molested by), Nickadermus ala horns and all and a good laugh to hang out with, and a few others including myself.

The band ( I dont recall the name) Kind of a Rob Zombie meets bubba from prison, belched out a lot of fuck this's and fuck thats but made the evening rather amusing. Cred to the band really they didn't take themselves too seriously and were actually entertaining the crowd with the music and by throwing out about 60 or so glowy sticks and loops into the crowd. Never flinching once when the crowd would throw them right back.

Lulie and Nickodermus amused themselves during the night by trying to put a glowy stick into the low rider (I mean REALLY low riding) pants of some fashion victims butt crack but chickened out at the last moment for fear of drunkin girl reprisals. Next time she'll get a glowstick in the butt if Im around.

Okay so if you guys saw me swaying a bit, NO I wasn't trying to dance. It was the tequila and red bulls that were steeling my equilibrium away.

Crowd was positive and in a great mood. Lots of pics on their website Im sure of various beautiful people smooching petting, dancing and general debauchery goth style. A definitely good night had by all.

Nightmares

What is the worst nightmare you've ever had?

My worst nightmare was when I thought I was awake. I got up and started walking through my room. All the lights looked kinda funny, and I had this feeling all around me like I had the flu really bad. Like when you are really sick and it feels like you're drunk. Well, when I got to the mirror in my bathroom, I was stunned. I had no hair and there was a layer of skin that had stretched over my mouth and nose. When I turned to run away, it became like I was running through water. I finally started to wake up, but I couldn't move. I had a terrible feeling of panic, and was trying to scream but couldn't. Then finally, I came out of it.

Have any of you had dreams like this? Some psychological folk say its called "sleep paralysis." They use it to explain UFO abductions and out of body experiences. I'm actually writing a story based on this phenomenon, and I am interested in hearing other experiences. They say it happens to one in three people.

The Basement is no longer...

After a little over four years the man is shutting the basement down. Bellz went to West Hollywood city hall yesterday, to get those afterhours permits the cops have been telling him about. He gets there to find out they not only know about us, but they were talking about him when he showed up.

When Bellz told them who he was, and what he was there for, everyone in the mayors office knew what was about to happen. Flat out, Bellz got lucky. If he didn't go there yesterday, by next week The Basement would have been busted, and he would be in jail. Everyone at city hall was great to deal with, but they have a job to do. We know what we where doing was a little illegal, but that was half the fun. Well, fun is over for now. We would just say fuck 'em, but they had pictures. They realy know about us. Damn spies.

We would like to thank you all for making the Basement the coollest in Hollywood. We had a great run, but now it is with a heavy heart that we have to say goodbye to all we had.

Ya know the ol' saying... "All good things must come to an end..."

Hi everyone.

Okay so there's been the obvious banter on Tribe about the censorship yada yada yada blah blah. This tribe is now non-public yada yada yada. Meaning its a private tribe. So if there's anyone out there that would like this tribe to be public of a tamer non sexual nature please post here with your opinions. So far we are private.

Where we stand: I cant find anything sexier than gothlings, and at present we're not discussing sex or posting nudes so it seems that we can be public. At the moment you'll all have to invite those that you know and that would be interested in the LA's underground about this tribe.

I'll check the posts and if a majority wants to be private I'll keep it that way, other wise we may as well go public.

We'd like to thank everyone for their continued support of our :WUMPSKATE: shenanegans. Both Wednesday and myself (Xian) have just absolutely loved every minute of it. In between the crazy holidays that are coming up see if you can't find the time to join us as we plow through the Los Angelean "winter" with Los Angeles ONLY ALL AGES GOTH/INDUSTRIAL ROLLERSKATING PARTY!!

Over the years, these names have stood out deserving top honors in the realm of support: Michelle (DrunkBat), Elena (MisMonster), Namey, Andrew, Miss Blue, Skye, James, Shok, Michael Coleman, Michael Dannov, Shannon, Tiffany & Krieg of DARKWAER CLOTHING, Jeff Zugale, Andrew over at GROUND CONTROL, Randy of BATPACK CASTING, Lucien of DRUNKROCKERS, and so many more. Your enthusiasm and assistance with spreading the word has been a tremendous help that does not go unrecognized.

And don't forget to thank DJ WEDNESDAY when you see her. I may have the web skills, but this girl has the organization skills and gives me a kick in the ass now and then to get shit done. If it wasn't for Wednesday, :WUMPSKATE: would have never happened (or been named ":WUMPSKATE:" for that matter). :P

Also, we have to thank the venue, THE WORLD ON WHEELS. In three years, we've only been stuck without entry twice, and this most recent experience was for a good cause: WE NOW HAVE WOODEN FLOORS TO SKATE ON!!! That's right, they shut down for two whole weeks and put in a glorious wood floor for our skating pleasure. No more concrete, no more serious bruises or injuries!

NOTE: The venue has requested that persons bringing in their own skates and rollerblades, please, please, please no black wheels or stoppers, and you can't have exposed screws that could rip up the new wood floor. Find ways to cover them!

R.I.P.: DJ Jen (Los Angeles)

Jennifer Blaisdell was the DJ for the Goth room of Perversion for years. She passed away in her sleep on Sunday night.

Okay everyone don't forget that the LA Burning Man Decom is happening this Saturday. I was planning on bringing a portable Spikes Vampire Bar kit w/ me but just cant find enough time to get all that gear down there. I will be there in all my glory traipsing about like the hussy that I am handing out the latest Black Top Black Rock Beacon. (That is if we can get it published in time, argh!) Ill likely be there around 7p.m. or so.

So don't hesitate to pull me aside and say hello.

Those that are interested in Lulie's playa fur coats (so yummy) will likely see her as well, so hit her up for next years awesome playa coat.

The Nova Express Cafe (Hollywood, CA) hosts an experimental music night every Wednesday night. If your band is interested in performing, please send your website and/or a link to your mp3's, and your input list to lisette@lighthousepromo.net. Please pass this on to other musicians who may be interested.

The Nova Express is a small space (seats ~50-60) and doesn't pay bands to perform (there is no cover charge at the door). We do however offer free food and drinks to the performers.
